BoveyLeeAstounded by these intricate cut paper illustration from Pennsylvania-based artist, Bovey Lee. After receiving MFAs from UC Berkeley and Pratt Institute in New York the Hong Kong born artist relocated to Pittsburgh where she created her first design in 2005. She has stated the following on a recent interview regarding her work:

“It is important I express something compelling and urgent in my work. I am interested in many things but themes such as power, politics, sacrifice, and survival are central to my work.”

Was attracted by the manner of presentation of these repeat patterns created by Barcelona-based illustrator, Judy Kaufmann. On an Etsy interview the artist describes her work as ‘repetitive, tumultuous, colorful and spontaneous’. You can see more of her work on her website and you can purchase some of her prints here on Etsy. For now I leave you with this instructive quote from Judy:

“I think the time you spend drawing is proportional to the quality of your artwork, and the time you spend traveling is proportional to the quantity of inspiration…”
