Ty Wilkins

tywilkinsSan Francisco-based graphic designer and illustrator, Ty Wilkins, is known for his logo design, icon design, illustration and custom lettering. His style is minimalist with bold colors and rich textures. In an interview with Logo Lounge he says this about his design start:

“I was always the kid in school who liked to draw. When I was in high school I went through the International Baccalaureate program in Art. Yet, I still wasn’t clear what graphic design was. I was more familiar with careers like painting, animation and illustration. Growing up I was always interested in logos and album artwork, though it never really dawned on me that I could design these things for a living. So, when I arrived at Auburn University, I initially majored in International Business. Not long after I was there, however, I met a student in the graphic design department and knew that’s what I wanted to do. I remember being attracted to the sophisticated color palettes, use of a grid, refined typography and especially the bold streamlined gestalts. I graduated with a BFA in Graphic Design and I haven’t looked back since.”

James Oconnell

JamesOconnellIf we were to emulate an illustrator the unique style of UK-based artist, James Oconnell, would be on top of that list. The illustrator, digital artist and art director uses color and lines with his unique fingerprint as the basic elements in each design piece. He mostly finds inspiration in books, films, and music and believes that ‘less is always more’ when it comes to the creative process. On an interview Photoshop Tutorials he says this about himself:

“I’ve worked freelance, in-house and agency-side as a designer, storyteller and brand thinker since 2007. During this time I’ve had the chance to expand my passion through the craft of brand identities, online solutions, integrated marketing campaigns and illustrations for a variety of clients – clients who almost always become my friends. I’m currently head of design at an agency through the day – Creative Spark and by night I operate under the alias of Jamesp0p, which I have done so since leaving college so many, many years ago.”
