Cooee Design

Just purchased the origami ornaments pictured above. Was intending to use it just for Christmas but the colorations make it applicable for any occasion.  We’re eyeing the stained oak birds for our next purchase.  They are from the Swedish brand, Cooee Design, established by Catrine Ã…berg in 2005.  They are known for their beautiful minimalistic vases and trays created in various sizes primarily in earthy tones.  The ‘ball vase’ was the first product in their ceramic series.  It was met with great success and assortments based on this item was developed with new colors and shapes.  The name Cooee means ”Hi, Hello” on the Aboriginal language.

More of their products can be seen on their website,  Facebook and Instagram.

Xavier Veilhan

Xavier Veilhan  lives and works in Paris and is one of most well-known and internationally recognized French artist.  His work includes photography, sculpture, film, painting and installation art. His work is often showcased in the public space, with sculptures occupying numerous cities across France and abroad.  On an article in Art in America he says this about his fascination with the early Twentieth Century:

“In the time of Cubism and Futurism, there was this realization that everything’s always moving, and falling. Not falling apart, but falling toward something else. Art had to adapt to this idea. I’m very much into physics. Not that I understand all that much. I enjoy reading about it. You get this idea of the great complexity of the world. One of the reasons why I’m an artist is to try to achieve some sort of harmony from the complexity of the world.”

More of his work can be viewed on his website and on Instagram.

Pizza 4P’s

Admiring the pizza packaging created by Ki Saigon design studio.  The studio collaborated with Pizza 4P’s to to redesign pizza boxes as symbols of peace.  The chefs came up with three different pizzas of countries in conflict.  The concept is that ‘if ingredients can be together on a pizza, so can we on the planet’.  The boxes were designed with pop up handmade flowers combining the colors of the flags of each country.  They also expanded the project by creating ‘murals of peace’ using the exact spices and seasonings from each of the pizzas.  100% of the proceeds from the sale of the ‘peace pizzas’ went to the UN peace building fund.
