Mel Cerri

We love the funky type style of Mel Cerri but we could not find much information on her so will quote what she has written on her website.

“Mel Cerri is a lettering artist and illustrator based in São Paulo, Brazil. She enjoys all things fun and quirky, and that is reflected in the work she makes. Her Brazilian heritage also plays a big role as an inspiration for her bold color palettes and the vibrant signature of her work, resulting in loud and proud graphics, murals and more. She has collaborated with a diverse group of clients, including Facebook, Coca-Cola, Adobe, Pepsi, Disney and more.”

The artist can be found on her website, Behance, Dribble and Instagram.  Some of her prints are sold here on Society 6.

Will Kurtz

In 1981 Will Kurtz received his Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from Michigan State University.  For 25 years he practiced landscape architecture and in his mid thirties began creating art as a self-taught artist eventually attending graduate school at the New York Academy of Art. His artist statement clearly explains his work:

“I create realistic life-size figures and animals out of newspaper with an internal structure made of wood and wire. The newspaper forms have a collage of words and colorful advertising that is applied in a spontaneous painterly fashion to reflect the mood and life of the individual.”

“My subjects are real, everyday people who are often undistinguished and living on the margins of society. I select and create uncommon characters that have a distinct emotive quality. I use photography to capture a moment of their daily lives. They are often comic in character, dress or body type. The posture, gestures, facial expressions and clothing bring the figures to life. They have a familiarity of someone you might know or have passed on the street. I capture their resilience and vulnerability to embody a true empathy for the hardships we all share. The animals are selected to show their unique breed, size, shape or type of hair. Through them I am able express their innocence and humor that has a universal appeal.”

“Newspaper is my medium of choice because it gives a raw, imperfect, ephemeral quality that reminds us that we are only here on this earth for a short while.”

More of his work can be seen on his website, Facebook and Instagram.

Guy Yanai

Guy Yanai is an Israeli painter currently living and working in Tel Aviv, Israel.  He attended Parsons School of Design and the New York Studio School and receiving a BFA from Hampshire College in Massachusetts.  His work often depicts everyday objects and places using vibrant colors, simple shapes and a shallow depth of field.  He has numerous sources of inspiration including old, modern, and contemporary masters to photography, television, paintings, and advertisements.  On an interview with Miles McEnery Gallery he says this about his painting style:

“Honestly it just arrived slowly by working. The mark in painting is really important for me. So why not make every approach with linen have significant meaning? Not only do I not feel trapped, its liberating and allows me to make anything I want mine. Lately there have been a lot more vertical marks, so we will see where that goes. But really, the way I work is very simple, a brush, oil paint, linen.”

The artist can be followed on his website and on Instagram.
