Australian sculptor Shona Wilson has created these intricate sculptural assemblages with found natural materials. Her ephemeral artworks are born out of a desire to open up creatively and spiritually. Nature is her inspiration of which she says:
“The repetitive use of Nature’s detritus brings me closer to understanding the world we share. The materials themselves are storehouses of knowledge and information. They act as ‘keys’, unlocking doors to memory, science, history and imagination… For the past 20 years my work has been an invitation to marvel and wonder at the details within nature which I have presented predominantly through sculptural assemblages.â€
Admiring these miniature sculptures on pencil graphite created by Russian born artist and sculptor, Salavat Fidai. Each of his pieces can take several hours or days due to the fragile nature of the pencil tips. If he’s not sculpting he is creating miniature paintings on matchboxes, seeds and grains of rice.Â
You have to really get up close to fully appreciate the detailed work in these large scale installations, sculptures and wall art, the creations of New York-based artist, Ran Hwang. Originally trained as a realist artist, Hwang uses thousands of colorful threads, buttons, beads and crystals attached with long pins to create her incredible pieces. She describes the process as a form of meditation with the repetitive action and concentration evoking a Zen-like discipline.
