Ryan Todd

RyanToddAdmiring the bold, colorful and graphic illustrations of Ryan Todd, a London-based artist and designer. He has created a number of personal and commercial projects focusing creative thinking and wit. On an interview with Designboom, he talks about the best piece of advice he’s been given:

“There is something my dad used to say to me. I can’t remember the exact wording but it was something like ‘look at things as they can be, not as they are.’ I’m pretty sure he meant it to encourage me to see good in everything and everyone, which I love and try to do. but I also love the opportunity it creates; the idea that everything is packed with possibilities to change or improve. this sentiment of encouraging people to change the way they look at something is precisely what characterizes my work.”

Jupiter Nielsen

JupiterNielsenJupiter Nielsen is a ‘flamework’ glass artist residing in Maui, Hawaii. Glass work is the creative outlet for his passion of the natural world particularly Hawaii’s unique ecosystem. He write this about his passions:

“Flameworking glass became part of my life within the first month after moving to Maui in 1996. Hiking in the forests of Hawaii was part of my life from day one. I felt an immediate kinship with the Hawaiian landscape, where the flora & fauna have the highest rate of endemic species anywhere in the world. I have gained a wealth of knowledge about Hawaii’s native plants through countless hours hiking, taking photographs and volunteering with many conservation groups.”

“As my botanical knowledge has increased so has my skill at working with glass. Each piece is a puzzle that takes time, energy and skill to solve. Glass presents a wonderful challenge I thoroughly enjoy, never working the same way twice.”

You can follow the artist on his website and Instagram. Some of his pieces can be purchased on Etsy.

Mia Wen-Hsuan Liu

MiaWenHsuanMia Wen-Hsuan Liu is a graduate of San Francisco Art Institute and currently residing and working in Taipei, Taiwan. The artist finds her inspiration in various types of paper and uses them as a creative medium for her installation works. In an article on Paper N Design she describes her creative process:

“I like to draw freely, and is particularly mesmerized by the unique textures created by drawing on different papers; therefore, I love to discover different papers from my everyday life to use as my creative medium, and the medium itself also leads to the inspiration for my installation works.  The process also goes on to form the clear emergence of my creative theme.  By contemplating on a break-through way of working with flat and 3-dimensional structures, I have produced a series of drawings that have superseded 2-dimension, and I call them ‘Installation Drawing’.”

You can see more of her work on her website and on Flickr.
