Ail + El

Aileen Balfe is the homeware designer of Ail + El in Dublin.  She made her first concrete pots for succulent plants in 2013 and started to sell them at craft fairs.  In 2014 she made it her official business along with her friend, Eleanor McCaughey.  Her partner’s background is fine art and has since concentrated on painting leaving Aileen to continue to run the business alone.  On Garden of Poets she say this about her inspiration:

“I like to seek out inspiration from wandering around Dublin. I like to look at contemporary architecture, graffiti, and street art. I’m also a big fan of Pinterest!”

Sally Caulwell

Admiring the simple botanicals created by Sally Caulwell a Dublin-based illustrator and designer.  She plays with the geometry in nature — counting stamens and petals, looking for repetition and pattern. She studied at The National College of Art and Design in Dublin.  Sally’s style pairs a gentle aesthetic, with clean graphic lines. On the Irish Examiner she says this about her style:

“I like to play with geometry, distilling things down to simple forms. Nothing makes me happier than a balanced composition. I like to play with repetition, pattern and colour palettes.”
