Ekaterina Panikanova

EkaterinaPanikanovaRussian-born artist Ekaterina Panikanova arranges vintage books, notebooks and prints to use as an oversized canvas on which she creates her intriguing ink and acrylic paintings. The artist uses images to evoke recollections and thoughts inviting us to ‘read between the lines’. Really would love to see these up close.

Baptiste Debombourg

BaptisteDebombourgOur niece introduced us to this incredible on-site installation created by French sculptor, Baptiste Debombourg. The artist uses many layers of reclaimed material, glass, wood, nails and white paint to mimic a flood of rushing water. The site-specific installation was created at the Abbey Brauweiler in Germany. In his artist statement he writes about his projects:

“All my projects are somehow related to aspects of human relationships: our mistakes, our doubts and desires, as well as perceptions we each have of our own realities. My work explores the nature of our psychological relationships with objects, looking for the potential space between reality and the ideal model we aspire to achieve.”

We Make Carpets

WeMakeCarpetsThe amazing carpet installations are the collaborative creations of Dutch designers. Bob Waardenburg, Marcia Nolte and Stijn van der Vleuten. The carpets are constructed with materials atypical of the ones normally seen in homes. The pieces pictured above are made from pasta, plastic utensils, wooden skewers, bricks, paper clips and laundry pegs. You can see additional designs on their website, We Are Carpets. Here’s what they’ve written about their work:

“Bob: ‘Our work is about super elementary design. It is about objects everybody uses, like clothes pegs and LEDs, but that no one would give a second thought. Why do they look the way they do?’ Stijn adds: ‘It is essentially a revaluation of materials that have been produced to be discarded after use.’ Later, Marcia says: ‘We are purely interested in forms. It is very minimalistic.”

“WE MAKE CARPET loves those materials. ‘We want to celebrate these products’ existence.’ And that is what they do. With dazzling installations in the form of carpets.”
