Sachie

Found these embroidered linen tote bags from Japanese handmade market site, Minne. The name of the maker is unavailable but her profile says the she has had an apparel practice for 15 years and has since decided to make her own favorite things. Her embroidered accessories are sold under the brand name, Sachie. You can see more of her work on Minne as well as on Instagram.

Ayao Yamana (1897-1980)

Ayao Yamana (1897-1980) was an illustrator and graphic designer in Japan. The lead director for the design department of Shiseido Company was strongly influenced by French Art Deco which was very popular with the women in the 1920’s. His elegant and delicate illustrations decorated many of the the packaging and printed advertisement for the company. His five decade career produced an enormous and prodigious body of work.

Alice Makabe

Admiring the exquisite work of hand embroidery artist and writer, Alice Makabe. Typical of Japan very little information can be found on the Tokyo-based artisan. However, much of her work can be viewed on her blog, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
