Mizuki Goto

MizukiGotoWe are inspired by the works of illustrator/designer Mizuki Goto. She has a way with torn paper, paint and shapes that certainly makes us want to see more. You can find her work at Digmeout and purchase a few prints and tea towels here at West Elm.

Gaku Nakagawa

GakuNakagawaThese beautiful illustrations are the works of Buddhist monk and artist, Gaku Nakagawa. He studied Buddhist art at a University and worked as a copywriter and art director before becoming a freelance illustrator. He is represented by British talent agency, Dutch Uncle, on which he wrote a short artist statement:

“I aim to instill my illustrations with a sense of class and nobility, occasionally with a touch of humour as well, which I see as part of my “aesthetic exercises” as a practising monk.”

You can see more of his work on his Japanese website and follow him on Facebook.

Keiko Minami 1911-2004

KeikoMinamiNot too much is known about Japanese painter and print maker, Keiko Minami. Orphaned at a young age she expressed an early interest in art and poetry. She studied aquatint etching in Paris where many of her early works were sold.  Eventually she became well known for her work with UNICEF greeting cards and book illustrations. A website in her honor was recently developed and can be found here. Many of her prints can be viewed here on Artnet.
