Ceramist Junko Kitamura lives and works in Kyoto. Her stoneware are held in many public collections, including the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo; the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; Houston Museum of Art and Brooklyn Museum of Art. She starts her pieces with simple geometric forms thrown on a potter’s wheel. After applying black slip to the clay body, she painstakingly impresses the clay with patterns then inlays it with white slip, marrying traditional techniques with modern sensibilities.
