On an interview with Apex Magazine he says this about his work:
“I enjoy being playful and trying to make people laugh, but I also like making people feel uncomfortable and awkward. Creating artwork is very much like exercising the body. Some days, you should jog and eat light, whereas other days you should hit the weights and really challenge yourself.â€
“I go back and study my work often in an attempt to better understand my journey with art, and I’d say there’s a definite twisted humor behind a lot of the artwork I’ve created.â€
Laurel Roth Hope is a full time, self-taught artist and naturalist who lives and works in Northern California.  Prior to devoting herself to art she worked as a park ranger and in natural resource conservation. She has called herself “an artist that wishes she was a scientist”, which is reflected in her work. She began crocheting “Biodiversity Reclamation Suits for Urban Pigeons†as a comic relief from the overwhelming subject of environment and extinction. She sculpts and casts pigeons from resin and crochets suits of extinct bird’s plumage. On National Geographic she explains the following: Â
“The suits act like a cozy, covering up something we don’t want to see—environmental degradation and species extinction—with something arguably more attractive.â€
The artist works with other mediums as well which can be seen on her website, Facebook and Instagram.
