Turkish ceramic artist Aylin Bilgiç is known for her series of ceramic bowls that look like a splash of liquid frozen in time. Born in Istanbul she graduated from Marmara University Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Ceramics and Glass. She continued her artistic studies in various workshops including VitrA Ceramic Art Workshop.
While we love her household porcelain products we prefer to feature her whimsical hand-sculpted ceramic characters. She created three series:Â The Vacationers, Ordinary People and Summer Girls.Â
Admiring the creative style of South African illustrator and animator Fran Labuschagne. Her work often has a playful theme with a touch of humor. We particularly like her characters and her soothing palette. On an interview with Design Kids she says this about how she developed her style:
“I think personality also played a big role in the development of my style. The humoristic undertone is definitely due to my own tongue-in-cheek sense of humor. I’m also quite the perfectionist, so I like perfectly round corners and geometric shapes. I try to break that up a little with organic shapes and subtle rough textures, as I have a soft side to me as well.â€
