Irma Gruenholz

Irma Gruenholz is a three dimensional illustrator based in Madrid, Spain. She creates portraits and still lifes using a variety of materials including modeling clay and plasticine to achieve different effects. Her clay illustrations come in a variety of sizes but we are focusing today on these tiny clay accessories of a whole kitchen, fruits and vegetables.  On Create Zine she says this about her work:

“I find it quite hard to define my style. I suppose that working in three dimensions defines my work somehow. I do not like limitations in a particular style, so I love to explore the possibilities of each project and experiment with new solutions. Regardless of the technique I use, I like the simplicity, both in composition, forms and colour.”

Stefaan de Croock

Stefaan de Croock, a Belgium painter and sculptor creates wall sculptures made entirely from reclaimed wooden panels, doors, and furniture.  His murals adorn various buildings in Belgium deliberately choosing locations pertinent to the each design such as the side of an old furniture factory. His training and experience as a graphic designer puts a clear mark on his artistic vision.  In Facebook he says this about his work:

“My drawings and murals are populated by urban influences, but I combine them with organic forms and lines. My artworks are a combination of improvisation and construction. Spontaneity is very important in my work.”

Elizabeth Price

British ceramic sculptor Elizabeth Price was trained as an art teacher but it wasn’t until her forties that she finally took formal artistic training.  She attended art school and eventually set up a home studio.  She has exhibited solo and in group shows, undertaken installations and many individual commissions.  In her bio she describes her work as follows: 

“I mainly create figures. I love the shapes that human bodies make and the stories they tell. Using a visual language of gesture and stance – for example, the tilt of a neck or the set of the shoulders – I try to express a state of mind or a moment in a narrative. The results can be serious, light-hearted, ambiguous, enigmatic. Ideas either come in a flash or develop over time, prompted by people-watching, conversations, perhaps a mere phrase.”
