Cathy Rose

Cathy Rose grew up in Central Florida but lives and works in New Orleans.  She has been a mixed media artist for twenty years combining porcelain, wood and found objects. She attended the University of Central Florida where she earned a BFA and MFA.  She has exhibited in art fairs around the country and has also been invited to museum art shows.  Her work is figurative and narrative, a reflection of her personal story.

Hattie Newman

Hattie Newman is a set designer and paper artist working from her studio in East London. She builds and directs animations and set designs using handmade cut paper elements.  Many of her designs are found in advertisements, magazines, physical spaces and books. In an article on Lavva she says this about the limitations of her art:

“The paper projects don’t keep very well. After a few months the glue unsticks and it will all just unfold; if you have it out in sunlight the color will fade, and it’s hard to clean. I don’t keep very much – I instead keep it alive through the photos. I used to be sad about that because I would get attached and sentimental about everything I made. Now, if I make something really special, I’ll keep it in a bell jar.”

Molly Burgess

Admiring these soft sculptures created by Grand Rapids native, Molly Burgess.  This fiber artist’s love of nature and science led her to making insects, arachnid and especially moths.  She incorporates hand embroidery, machine stitching, painting, dying and wire work to form her creations.  In her bio she writes this about the moth:

“Many types of moths—including my favorite the luna moth—only live a couple of weeks after they emerge. I found it interesting that the part of their lives where they are the most beautiful is also the most fleeting. My work is definitely influenced by a desire to create a lasting representation of that beauty.”
