Johanna Härmä

JohannaHarmaAdmiring the work of Finnish designer/illustrator Johanna Härmä. Love the bold and colorful illustrations clearly inspired by her Scandinavian background. She writes this about her inspiration:

“My work is inspired, primarily, by random daydreaming, things I see when walking around, nature, music and my hometown, forests and lake house in Hämeenlinna, Finland.”

My Vintage Book Collection (in blog form)

MyVintageBookCollectionInspired by many of the book illustrations posted on the blog, My Vintage Book Collection (in blog form). We had many favorites but we particularly like the illustrations from the Polish Cookbook by Zofia Czerny and illustrated by Czeslaw Wielhorki, published in 1961. This amazing vintage picture book collection is the compilation of Mallory McInnis and some of the books can be purchased in her Etsy shop, Elwood & Eloise.

Anna Lindsten

AnnaLindstenLove these patterns and products created by Stockholm-based illustrator and designer, Anna Lindsten. She works with various tools in her work but the paper cutting probably gives us the simple shapes we at Cari Mateo so admires. Here’s what we know about the artist from her bio:

“Anna likes the forest so there are lots of trees, woodplants and characters – imaginative or not – in her work. Her work is colourful and playful, inspiration come from popular culture, comics, art, fairy tales, fashion, vintage children books, magazines, children’s art, folk art, the Swedish landscape of Småland that has a big influence on her since she was a child.”
