Shane O’Driscoll

Shane O’Driscoll is an Irish printmaker and visual artist that practices mainly in screen printing. He studied Visual Communications and is a member of Cork Printmakers and Graphic Studio Dublin.  He has exhibited his work internationally and throughout Ireland. This Cork-based artist employs silkscreen printing to record his travels and paint a unique contemporary picture of the world today.  In an article on Irish Examiner he says this about his work:

“My artwork is mainly abstract with bright-coloured compositions that focus on structure and tension. I also admire architecture and often use the shapes of buildings in my pieces.”

Okiie Hashimoto (1899 – 1993)

Okie Hashimoto pursued a classical study of art and painting for four years graduating from the College of Art in Tokyo.  He was one of Japan’s finest woodblock printmakers having been influenced by his teacher and friend Unichi Haratsuka. Hashimoto was part of the Japanese movement of printmakers that were changing the traditional approaches to their craft.  His bold use of color is his signature trait with his main subjects being gardens, castles and figure studies.

Saburo Miyata (1924 – 2013)

Saburo Miyata was born in Nagano prefecture in 1924.  He started his career after WW2 and worked in Tokyo heading the Hanga Institute to promote Japanese printmaking. His major work was created from 1970 to 1984 a series of self-carved and self-printed woodblock prints depicting the sceneries of Japan.
