Dinara Mirtalipova

DinaraMirtalipovaAdmiring the folk inspired illustrations of Ohio-based artist, Dinara Mirtalipova. The Uzbekistan native is a self-taught illustrator and pattern designer. She writes this about sources that inspire her:

“I find my inspiration in folklore, old songs my mom used to sing to me, fairy tales from when I was little, a wall rug hung above my grandma’s bed, cultures, story telling, textiles and fabrics.”

Alison Milner

Alison-MilnerAdmiring the diverse work of British designer, Alison Milner. She originally trained in furniture design but has since broadened her skills to include illustration, exhibitions and product design.  She also has a thorough knowledge of a variety of materials and production processes. On an interview with the blog, Pattern Booth, she gives this advice to creators wanting to follow her footsteps:

“Give yourself enough time to research widely. Keep interests away from your specialisation. Keep sketchbooks of ideas. Read and write. If you don’t do all these things your work will just look like other peoples work.

I think a good computer and Adobe Creative suite are a must… when you start you can generate all your own marketing material, website, etc.

Be patient and true to yourself.”

S.D. Evans Quilts

S.D.EvansQuiltWouldn’t at all mind having a couple of these quilts in my home. These minimalist designs are the creation of Brooklyn-base quilter, Season Evans. They are made by hand using natural fabrics and sold under the brand name, S.D. Evans Quilts. Love the simple patterns and the pared down approach to color that give these quilts a strong contemporary appeal.
