Zoe Attwell

ZoeAttwellAdmiring the simple shapes, colors and textures on these designs created by London-based surface pattern designer, Zoe Attwell. Her stylized patterns are mostly hand drawn with a few vector elements. The patterns are made into stationery, pillows and tea towels, some of which can be purchased here on Not on the High Street. She writes this about inspiration:

“I’m drawn to design from the 50s, Lucienne Day, Miró, Scandinavian design, and to the colourful and abstract. My design style is mostly hand-drawn, abstract and stylised. My patterns are happy and cheerful and are designed to bring fun and colour to your home.”

Marti Mugs

MartiMugsHope you don’t mind this Monday morning endorsement but our friend just opened up her Etsy shop, Marti Mugs. She creates these custom made captioned mugs that are dishwasher and microwave safe. They are hand-scripted ceramic mugs so no two will ever be alike and you can contact her if you want a personalized message inscribed. We love them a lot and they’re great for gifting.

Blanca Helga

BlancaHelgaThese fun and whimsical paper toys are the creation of Madrid-based illustrator and film maker, Blanca Helga. They are created primarily with found paper and cardboard using a collage technique and can be purchased under the brand, Paper Friends, in her Etsy shop.  More of her incredible work can be seen here on Flickr.  On an interview with ‘The Tools Artists Use’ she distinguishes her application of digital and non digital tools:

“The starting point is always non-digital. I feel freer and closer to the work, when I touch the paper with my hands. Another reason is that I love the warm, imperfect look of the non-digital materials. But I need most of the time the digital tool to finish the work.”
