Azra Khamissa

One of our favorite blog, Present and Correct, posted an article that we just had to share.  Azra Khamissa is a chiropractor, handbag designer and henna artist.  She is known for her non-traditional spin on this ancient form of body art, henna. Instead of drawing traditional paisley shapes and floral themes, her designs are minimal and more contemporary.  The Dubai-based artist creates intricate geometric shapes and minimal single-line designs.   Her job as a chiropractor greatly influences her work:  “I look at the hand as a whole, so I use the joints and the different planes, and try to incorporate the whole hand in the design”.

More of her work can be viewed on Instagram. Henna kits and her bag designs can be purchased in her shop branded Azra.

Takehiro Kishimoto

We first saw his incredible work on This Is Colossal so we just had to share. These are the creations of Japanese chef and food carver Takehiro Kishimoto.  The Kobe-based chef discovered Thai carving online and hopes to spread this art across the globe.  Many of his designs are inspired by traditional Japanese patterns and he also includes designs of his own.

You can view more of his work here on Instagram.

Bashir Sultani

We first happened upon these clever use of stacked pencils on the blog, Present and Correct, and we just had to share.  They are the creations of Afghan born artist, Bashir Sultani.  The Toronto-based artist likes to work on experimental art projects such as painting with salt and stop motion animation with pencils.

You can see more of his work on Instagram and Behance.  His salt paintings can be viewed on YouTube.
