Sue Binns

UK-based potter Sue Binns is largely self taught but has spent a few years under the guidance of the Montem School in the 80s. She produces a wide array of functional domestic stoneware with her distinctive stripe patterns. In a statement on Beside the Wave she writes:

“I’m fascinated by the way stripes create different visual impressions, positive or negative, depending on their thickness and density’. She draws inspiration from 1950s Rye Pottery, which she grew up near, as well as Mediterranean pottery and Japanese fabrics and ceramics.”

Tatsuro Kiuchi

Tatsuro Kiuchi is a Tokyo-based illustrator and artist who has created imagery for a wide array of publications. His illustrations have an old school and hand work look about them but much of it is produced digitally on Photoshop. He creates thumbnail sketches in his sketchbook and when ready he draws and paint on the screen using a Wacom tablet.  His beautiful work shows subtle layering, elegant colors and grainy textures.

You can find the artist on his website, Facebook, Behance and Instagram. Prints of his work are available at Society 6.

Lindsey Tyson

We’ve never tried felting before but might give it a stab specially after seeing the exquisite works of textile artist and designer Lindsey Tyson. The UK-based artist is a weaver by trade but has successfully sidestepped into the art of felt making creating a line that is both tactile and sophisticated. She is inspired by the sea, landscape and nature of the North Yorkshire coast.
You can follow the artist on Facebook and on her website where she list shops that carry her line.
